The challenge in representing Africa is how to describe the dichotomy between the shocking life conditions and the smiles that pervade everyone’s faces. Children are dressed with nothing; women are beautiful in their shiny fierceness and their precious dresses, and men are handsome gentle guys often in indulging in peaceful idleness.

A lot of these photos focus on women in one of the most crowded markets in Lomé. In a big confusion women are everywhere working and carrying the most disparate things on their heads.

These photos are a tribute to all the women of Africa, who carry on their shoulder much more that we can imagine: the family works, the education of children, the harmony in the house. They bring on the head baskets of everything looking like princesses wearing glorious crowns.
